God’s Confirmation

Genesis 18-

We are continuing of our story of Abraham and Sarah receiving a child from the Lord. The Lord told Abraham that they will have a son but Abraham laughed at what God said. We learned that God was patient with Abraham just like he is patient with us today. In this chapter God confirmed his promise of a son with having three anonymous visitors come to Abraham.

Who were these strange three fellows which had Abraham so excited. He runs out to meet them and fall on his face as a sign of humility for them? Abraham knew that these mean were no ordinary men because he was over ninety years old and ran out to meet them. Have you ever seen a 90 year old man run? Abraham even said, “O Lord if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.” Abraham knew it was the Lord. It was the Trinity being shown to Abraham who not only came to talk to him but confirm the promise of having a son. Abraham was very generous in taking care of his guests. He had Sarah prepare some cakes to eat while Abraham prepared a calf to eat. As these men ate and told Abraham that he would be a father by this time next year. Sarah overheard in the next room and laughed to herself. Then the Lord who knows all asked, Why did Sarah laugh, is anything to hard for the Lord?”

How do you come to the Lord when he is there for you? Do you run to meet him with Bible study and prayer? What about when you come to church? Are you more excited about talking to your friends and getting the latest story or are you excited to see what God has for you? Are you excited and have your heart prepared for him to talk to you and show you what he has in store for you in this life? Maybe there seems like something is impossible for you and you think it would never happen in your life or for you like Sarah did, but ask yourself is there anything to hard for the Lord? No, there is not. God is sovereign and all powerful. God has a plan for you in  your life. I know there are times that I doubt God and I always have to remind myself, who is in control and the answer is God.

Abraham the mediator verses 22-33

In this section God tells Abraham that judgment is coming upon two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah. God was going to pay a little visit to these cities and see what exactly they are doing. What he finds out is that there were no righteous people in these cities. They were all living for themselves and not for God. Then men return and tell Abraham what they found out and Abraham and God kind of barter for saving the city. God says, “If there is 50 righteous in it then I won’t destroy it.” Guess what, there were not even 10 in that city. Abraham desired to talk to God and stand in the midst of the wicked people of Sodom and the wrath of God. It was not only Lot and his family that were in mind but Abraham desired to save people.

Jesus stood in the gap between us, wicked sinners, and a righteous God. Jesus died so we can have eternal life. He even died for those who would not care. Stand strong, Hebrews 10:19~ Therefore brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus…vs 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith…  May we draw near to God because we can, because of what Jesus did for us.

Cool! Oh, and the answer to your question about if I`ve ever seen a 90 year old man run, the answer is no! I think they were more healthy back then, & there was no polution in the air so it helped them to live longer & healther.

What I wonder is,how did Abraham know that these three ” men ” were the Trinity? God must have told Abraham in his heart. Don`t ya` think?!
Abraham seems to be acting like us kids when he keeps asking the LORD if He will spare 50, or 40, or 30, 20, 0r even 10 rightoues people in Sodom & Gomarah! Cause, don`t us kids act like that sometimes?!! But I think Abraham was just trying to get the facts straight.
