CRUX Daily: The Children of Israel
Read: Exodus 16
Reflect: The children of Israel were grumbling against Moses and Aaron. But in reality when we grumble it’s against the Lord. What in your life are you tempted to grumble about?
Request (Prayer): Father, help me to not grumble about things in my life. Help me to just trust in you.
Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s my way or the highway?” That’s a phrase that is used that basically says, “If I can’t have it my way, then no one can have it at all.” This is how a lot of people live their life. They don’t want to do anything unless it is done their way and that is it!
This is someone who we call selfish! They are so selfish that everything needs to be done the way they want and they need to have everything they ask for regardless. Another word that we can use to describe someone like that is “spoiled”. They get everything they want and they get it whenever they want it. Do you know anybody like that?
The Israelites were a prime example of people who grumbled and complained and did so until they were given what they wanted. Does getting everything you want in life really satisfy your every need? I know quite a few people who have gotten everything they’ve ever wanted and yet still were unhappy with their life. This was the exact model of the children of Israel. They complained and complained until they got what they wanted, God gave them what they wanted, but were still unsatisfied with everything.
If only the Israelites would have trusted in God with their life, to satisfy and fulfill all that they needed, they wouldn’t have had to grumble and complain about everything. When we lack to trust in God we seek things on earth to find satisfaction in, but really we just need to refocus our attention and trust in God and He will direct our path and make it straight.
