CRUX Daily: Plagues of Egypt
Read: Exodus 7-9
Reflect: What were the first seven plagues and why did God send them?
Request (Prayer): Lord, let me see your power and might displayed in my life!
Why would God send the plagues that He did to Egypt? Why would He do such a horrible thing? Was it because God hated all of them? No. Was it because God wanted to reveal Himself to Pharaoh? Most likely. The reason that the plagues were sent to Egypt was because Pharaoh would not let the people of Israel go free. Was this to get revenge on Pharaoh? Possibly, but I believe the bigger reason that God sent those plagues was to reveal His power, authority and justice.
God could have completely wiped out the entire nation, or even just Pharaoh himself, but God strained Himself from killing him on the spot, and actually made many different opportunities for Pharaoh to choose to let the people go. He gave him the opportunity to choose but Pharaoh chose to harden his heart even more. But why did Pharaoh harden his heart? Because he wanted to do rather than what God wanted or asked. He was selfish, he didn’t want to obey the Lord.
And we become like Pharaoh when we decide to things on our own and take things into our own hands and when we deny to do what God wants, God reveals His power to us by showing His power and justice. Do you trust in Him? Do you put your life into His hands? You should trust in Him, for He is the only one who has been faithful since the beginning and will always be.
