CRUX Daily: 10 Commandments Part 2

Read: Exodus 20

Reflect: Can you name all 10 commandments from memory? (if not, just name as many as you can)

Request (Prayer): Father, please help me to remember Your commandments and help me to keep them.

Have you ever tried to commit something to memory but failed miserably? Or maybe you’ve played the memory game and you have to try and match the two tiles until you win the game? I’m not very good at that game by the way!

Memorizing things is a great way to remember things on the spot and it helps you process ideas and thoughts. What’s the benefit of memorizing Scripture? Well, David said in the Psalms, “You Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against you.” That was David’s way of saying, “I am going memorize Your law and all within it so that I don’t sin against you.” By David saying that, he was stating that he was going to memorize Scripture so that way when he was caught in a tough situation, or when he was tempted to give into temptation, he could run because he knew God’s law.

Do you know God’s law? Do you memorize Scripture? When you are tempted to give into temptation do you remember what the Bible says or you just don’t care. What would be the reason to memorize the 10 commandments or any other part of the Bible? It would be so that we do not fall into sin.

The challenge for you this week is to memorize the 10 commandments and see how well you do throughout the week in remembering them. Even have a friend, family member or church leader help you memorize them.
