CRUX Daily: Wisdom For Life
Read: 1 Kings 3:16-28
Reflect: Not only did God hear Solomon’s prayer but He answered it too. What are some things that you have prayed for that the Lord has answered.
Request (Prayer): Father, thank you for hearing me and answering my prayers.
So Solomon was faced with a dilemma right after he had received wisdom from God. A decision that not too many want to be in. What is this problem? Two women are wanting to know who this baby belongs to and they are continually fighting over this child. They continue to fight back and forth, they continued to bicker with no resolve.
The fighting continued on until Solomon came to a solution. The solution? He brought a sword into the area they were and said, “Well since no one can come to a conclusion, let’s just cut the child in half and we’ll call it even. The first lady said to King Solomon, “please do not harm the child, please give it to the other lady so the child may live,” and the second lady said, “no please split it in half so we can each take the child.”
Who is the mother of this child? The first one? The second? The first of course! Why? Because she was not willing for the child to die in order that they both be satisfied, she was willing to give her child to the other woman so that it may live. That’s how we know that the child belongs to the first child because she wanted what was best for her child.
This is a great example of how the Lord granted Solomon wisdom and blessed him with such a great gift. What do we learn from this story that we can apply to our own life? Solomon was given wisdom. In this case, God asked Solomon what he wanted of everything in life and Solomon asked for wisdom. What a wise choice! James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given.” Do you need wisdom? Ask God, and He will supply with enough wisdom far beyond your expectations.
