Attention Getter!
Read: Isaiah 6:1-7
Reflect: Worship is defined as the object of adoring reverence or regard. God is the one who should receive our attention and reverence. Think of different passages of Scripture that point to how awesome and holy God is.
Request (Prayer): God, show me how great You are!
Isaiah had a vision of being before the throne of God. In this vision he realized 2 things.
1. He saw how holy, majestic and amazing God is. His power, His royalty and Kingship were all on display.
2. As he saw God seated upon the throne, he realized the severity of his own sin.
When we see God, we don’t see Him as we want Him to be, whether that be keeping a few things out, maybe not liking a part of God, i.e. His judgment or His all-knowing, but regardless of what we want to see, we see how perfect He is, and we see our own sin magnified by 1,000 times! Our sin should cause us to see how much we need God, and when we see God, we should see how offensive our sin is to God.
When all of those things are tied together, we can’t help but openly worship God through it all. Whether you see your own sin and then turn to god because you feel bad, or whether you see God and you see how bad your sin is, we worship Him because we know He is worthy of such praise. Why? He sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world to die for those sins, and so we in turn thank Him and praise Him for shedding His blood for our forgiveness, and we lift high the name of God because He needs to be made known to everyone else around us.
Worship is suppose to be something that we do to acknowledge the goodness of God, and to recognize the evil of our sin, and when we worship, we should repent of those sins and praise God that we no longer have to wish our sins were forgiven for, because they already are!
Romans 6:23 tells us, “for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The price that has to be paid for our sins is death, and yet Christ died for us, on our behalf, so we didn’t have to, and yet here we are living our life, as if He never died for us. Why is that? One word: Pride.
We are too prideful to allow ourself to become humble, and we allow our pride to control the way we view God. If we have much pride, we think very little of God. if we have little pride, we think very highly of God. Why? Because with pride in our life, we are blinded at His goodness because we are so consumed with how good we think we are. But if we think little of ourself, and we see ourself for who He truly is, then we see how big and great and wonderful He is.
What has kept you from worshipping God? Whatever it is, lay it down at the foot of the cross and rejoice in what God did for us, through His Son, Jesus.
