My God is the God Who Provides

Read: Genesis 22:14

Reflect: Jehovah Jireh means the Lord will provide. What has God provided for you and/or your family?

Request (Prayer): Thank the Lord for everything He has given you.

Abraham was told by God to go sacrifice his own son. That’s a pretty huge thing for God to ask someone to do. To sacrifice his only son!? That’s pretty intense!

In Genesis 22, Abraham is asked by God to kill his only son, this was ultimately an act of faith on Abraham’s part. Would he do it? Would he sacrifice his only son to be obedient to God? What would you have done in that situation?

There are 2 ways this could have gone. 1- Abraham disobeys God and decides to not kill his own son, but receives judgment from God for not listening to Him. 2- Abraham listens to God, kills his only son, and see how God would bless him.

Abraham did the 2nd, he was ready to kill his only son, so much so that he even lifted the knife above his son and was ready to come down upon him to kill him, but the Lord sent an angel to intervene. Because of Abraham’s obedience, the Lord provided another sacrifice than his own son.

In this situation, we see this man Abraham, listening to God to kill his son, but God rewards Abraham for his faithfulness and obedience, and the Lord provided another sacrifice.

Have you ever been in a situation where you had no idea how there was ever going to be a way of providing for your needs? Maybe your parents were short on money, had lost a job or the house, had no idea how to get food on the table, and out of nowhere…BAM! The Lord just provides every need there has ever been! That is God’s provision of watching over us.

When the times see tough, there seems to be no way out of it, God gives to His children and blesses them and show Himself in such a mighty way! God is the God who provides. Do you have a financial need? Ask God. Do you have a need for a healing touch? Ask God. Do you need help getting through school? Ask God.

Why do you not have what you need? It’s because we can be scared to ask God, but God wants us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares about us. He wants to know what your dealing with and He wants to provide the need you have. Don’t be afraid to ask God, because He will give you what you need. If you ask God for money to pay rent do you think He’s going to give you marbles? If you need escape from temptation do you think the Lord will shut the door and keep you inside the temptation? No way! If you ask God to deliver you from temptation or to ask for a financial need, He will provide the EXACT amount you will need.

Trust in God, Lean on Him, Rest in His Presence, Seek His Face, and see if He will not provide for you.
