Join us on May 17, 2013 at 6:30PM for our CRUX Baptism & Celebration! We will spend time worshiping the Lord together, including an exhortation of the meaning of baptism.
What is baptism? The word “baptism” can be defined as, “to purify or cleanse spiritually especially by a purging experience or ordeal.” Water baptism is a public, outward testimony that indicates a personal, inward faith. It gives evidence of the inner change that has already occurred in the believer’s life when he or she was “born again” through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 6:3-4 says, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” What this means for the Christian is that just as Christ died on a cross for our sins, and was buried, then rose again 3 days later, symbolically, Christians also use water baptism as an act of showing that they want to take their relationship with Jesus seriously. To be immersed into the water symbolizes your death to sin and the cleansing of spiritual impurities, and the coming up out of the water represents your newness of life as Romans 6:4 tells us.
We are to be baptized because Jesus Christ commanded it (Matthew 28:19), and because we love the Lord. Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). Baptism identifies the believer with the message of the gospel, the Person of Jesus Christ, and other believers. It associates the believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and signifies the believer’s death to the old life and his or her resurrection as a new creation in Christ.
With that in mind, the question must be asked, “Have you been baptized?” If not, you should! Not only because Jesus wants us to as a way of obedience, but we should also desire to be baptized as well. And you have an opportunity to do so on May 17 at 6:30PM. We will also be having FREE pizza after as we celebrate those who got baptized.
Hope to see you there!
