CRUX Daily: False Idols, False Hope

Read: 1 Kings 18:22-40

Reflect: God answered Elijah’s prayer. The difference between God and false idols is that God answers pray. Many people are lost in other religions and do some very strange things to worship their false idols. Can you think of any examples of false religions?

Request (Prayer): Father, thank you for showing me the truth and hearing and answering my prayers.

There are a lot of impostors in our day and age. There are very many “fakes” out there that try to pose as the real thing. For instance, there are knock off shoes that look like TOMS but are called BOBS. There are other tablets out there that try to look like an iPad, but there is really only one iPad.

In the realm of religion and faith, there are many religions that try to make themselves as close to the one, true God as possible, but we all know that there is only one, true God. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man can come to the Father except through me.’”

CRUX Daily: You Got To Serve Somebody

Read: 1 Kings 18:20-21, Joshua 25:15, Matthew 6:24

Reflect: The Bible is very clear that we can only serve(worship) one God. If we try to serve the one true God of the Bible and something else we will fail to be like Jesus. Who do you serve? Is there anything else in your life that you hold as more valuable than your relationship with God? What are they?

Request (prayer): Lord, take away anything from me that takes Your place in my life. Help me to serve You with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

It’s been said before by a musician, “You’ve got to serve somebody.” Yes this is in fact entirely true. You do have to serve somebody/something.

Did you know that even atheists serve something or someone?

The most devout skeptic is the most devout believer. What do I mean by that? I mean that even someone who does not believe in any gods, or the true God, even they serve something. Whether it be money, cars, possessions, women, men or whatever, we all serve something or someone.

CRUX Daily: Wisdom For Life

Read: 1 Kings 3:16-28

Reflect: Not only did God hear Solomon’s prayer but He answered it too. What are some things that you have prayed for that the Lord has answered.

Request (Prayer): Father, thank you for hearing me and answering my prayers.

So Solomon was faced with a dilemma right after he had received wisdom from God. A decision that not too many want to be in. What is this problem? Two women are wanting to know who this baby belongs to and they are continually fighting over this child. They continue to fight back and forth, they continued to bicker with no resolve.

CRUX Daily: Unanswered Prayer?

Read: 1 Kings 3:11-15 & James 4:3

Reflect: When Solomon prayed, God heard him and answered his prayer. Do you feel like God does not hear your prayers? Why?

Request (Prayer): Father, help me remember that You hear me every time I pray and to pray for Your will to be done.

Maybe you’ve prayed often. Maybe you’ve prayed “hard.” And maybe you’ve prayed for the same thing over and over again, and yet God doesn’t seem to hear. It’s easy to be talking to someone and ask, “Are you listening?” But prayer isn’t always like that. It gets rough, it gets dull, and sometimes it just gets tiresome.

CRUX Daily: Abundance in God

Read: 1 Kings 3:16-28

Reflect: Solomon used his wisdom and it brought God glory. How can you use the wisdom that God has given you to honor God?

Request (prayer): Lord, help me to use wisdom to bring You glory

Notice how God opened a door of opportunity, which allowed Solomon to utilize the wisdom God had blessed him with. Notice three very interesting facts:

First God prepared Solomon; (in 1 Kings 3:3 it says that Solomon loved God and walked in the statues of his father David, then in verse 9 he asks God for wisdom).

Second once Solomon is prepared God gives him an opportunity.
Third God blessed Solomon abundantly above all that he asked or thought.

CRUX Daily: OBEY

Read: 1 Kings 2:1-12 & Luke 10:25-27

Reflect: Whats was David’s instruction to his son Solomon? What does Jesus say that the law is?

Request (Prayer): God, help me to obey Your laws and to love You with all of my heart.

Laws in this world are what help make this place a viable living atmosphere. Laws tell us what is right and what is wrong. Some laws allow us to go and others tell us to stop. But what is the greatest law of all? The greatest law of all is not one made by man, but rather one established by God! It’s found in Luke 10:27, “You shall love the Lord your God will all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
