Walking in the Light

Being a little boy I had a hard time falling asleep at night, not because of being hyper so that I had to calm down, I had a hard time going to sleep because I was restless.

On more than one occasion I was afraid of 1 of 2 things. Either being a afraid of the dark or being afraid of a monster. For a little bit over a year I had a hard time falling asleep because I thought a monster was going to get me. I was at a friend’s birthday party when I was 7, being the youngest kid, watching scary movies, I wanted to fit in, I wanted to be cool like all the other guys because I wanted to show them that I was just as cool. Boy was I wrong! (more…)

God’s Patience

2 Peter 3:9

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

Patience is something that is an on-going work in my life. Despite the rise of new technology which makes life easier and faster yet we are less patient as a culture. How are you with patience? I am so glad that God’s patience is not compared to my patience or any other human being. In this particle chapter, Peter is talking about the Day of the Lord and the timing of that day. The Day of the Lord is what is written about the judgment on the world before the return of Christ (Matthew 24 & 25, 1 Thessalonians 5). We read that Peter wanted to awaken the readers to be mindful that there is a Day of the Lord. (more…)

Danger in the Church

2 Peter 2

As my daughter is two, she has the tendency to want to run up to anyone. Sometimes she is shy but most of the time she is not. She with her childlike nature thinks everyone is friendly and a friend. My wife and I are trying to teach about strangers and the right and wrong way to approach them. In today’s world, you never know of those who may be dangerous. Have you ever heard a kid say, “I am not aloud to talk to strangers?” In this chapter of 2 Peter, Peter the apostle who wrote this, wants the church to be aware of the strangers (false teachers) of the church and the dangers with them. Cultivating Your Life

2 Peter 1

By Jared Saavedra

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7.

The above passage is one of many “lists” in the Bible. You know, like genealogies, lists of sacrifices in the Old Testament, lists of sins found in the New Testament, and passages we sometimes tend to skim over. But remember that all scripture is inspired by God, and the things we tend to skim are some of the most important guidelines for a Christian. (more…)

Live Only For God, No Matter What

LIVE ONLY FOR GOD, NO MATTER WHAT

1st Peter 4:1-5

By Morris Brison

In the first part of 1st Peter chapter four we are encouraged by the example of the life of Christ in this way: We are reminded that Christ submitted to the suffering which was necessary because of the condition of our world, and His purpose for being here; which was to do the will of The Father and not to live for His own pleasure, no matter what happens. In our passage this morning we learn that we are to have the same attitude: let’s read 1st Peter 4:1-5 together: (Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the lining and the dead.)

As we have read we are to live for God no matter what; realizing that many of those around us will not like this and ridicule us because of our commitment to Christ. We simply need to remember that it is more than worth it tor our reward is great, and our purpose is incredible (to be a witness, that others may go to heaven). Therefore today let us turn totally to Christ, and away from the ungodly attractions of this world. Knowing simply one thing: It is the right thing to do for now and for eternity.

Vanity Oh Vanity

1 Peter 3

By Luke Sanders

I went to college at California Baptist University which is a private Christian school. I was involved with the men’s choir there, during the three years that I was involved with the music program I learned some very interesting things about how we value a person. We all know that in the secular world individuals are judged based on their outer appearance, however did you ever think that Christians did the very same thing??? (more…)
